Interiors - by Brent Lawson

(2020 - 2023)

I started collecting found furniture and reupholstering the pieces in bus moquette.
Bus moquette is one of the most durable textiles and one I quite frequently remember
seeing on my trips through Santa Monica on the Big Blue Bus and the Metro 794.

With the phasing-out of these super durable fabrics, I have taken aim at old, crusty
furniture to be candidates for their livelihood. These materials have been sourced
through an extensive network and are often times deadstock vintage or new old stock
materials sitting in materials libraries all over the world. I’ve taken some time
to try and find them so I can create more inclusive, vibrant and conversational spaces
in the interiors of your favorite places.

Bus Moquette is great to use because of its super high durability. I can’t stand seeing
plastic on furniture, and I always wondered why someone would buy a super high end
sofa that would stain as soon as you sat on it while wearing jeans. Bus Moquette was
designed for that, and I have chosen to apply it on found objects that are considered
contemporary in their design/ nature.

Each piece is unique.

I currently sell these products almost exclusively through Homegrown on Sunset- a
street-focused mom-pop sub brand at the iconic Fred Segal.
